People often ask why they should read our books or take our classes and the answer is quite simple; because merchandising skills change people’s lives.

You may think this is a bold statement but it is the truth . . . People that learn to trade the basis and develop their merchandising skills – what we like to call having “Basis Eyes” – find it has a profound impact on their lives. 

Learning merchandising skills is not only a life-changing event for individuals, but I’ve seen it impact entire communities.  With new dollars circulating in the community, Main Street is quite a different place. 

I’ve seen it happen and am honored to know many outstanding merchants who have taken the gift of merchandising skills and made a real difference in their business and their community.

About Workshops

Foundational Merchandising Workshop
An opportunity for newer merchandisers and support staff to gain a greater understanding of and familiarity with what the basis is, how it works and how to manage basis and spreads to improve margins.

 

Control Based Merchandising Workshop
This meeting for more advanced merchandisers features control as it relates to generating profitable merchandising margins, managing cash flow (and the interest bills that go with it) and actively identifying and pursuing basis opportunities in all environments.

 

Grain Elevator Financing Workshop
This meeting is focused on providing the banking community with a better understanding of the risks and rewards in the grain business.  The goal of the meeting is to have participants leave with a better understanding of how merchandising works in a disciplined grain elevator operation and give lenders the tools to identify their risks as well as their opportunities.

 

Grain Accounting for Hedging Elevators
This meeting includes topics such as basic principles of grain accounting, proper evaluation of inventory and open purchase and sales contracts, proper accounting of futures transactions, understanding your futures account statements and where to look for errors when your statements don't look right.  Attendees can be anyone involved in the elevator's accounting procedures or production and review of financial statements.

 

Grain Buyer's Bootcamp
For White Commercial Participants only, this day and a half meeting focuses on giving individual buyers the skills to have the ProfitTalk with producers.  The meeting includes understanding and using various ProfitTalk tools, understanding common types of contracts, understanding and using options, selling skills and more!

Action Meeting
For White Commercial Participants only, this meeting brings basis traders together to discuss what they should be doing to capture current opportunities and overcome challenges.

 

Internet Meetings
For White Commercial Participants only, these meetings are held online for convenience and for the ability to get people from all over the country together.  They can be either a workshop or action meeting format.  The meetings consist of a conference call and a visual computer presentation, which requires high speed internet access.

 

Master Management Conference
For White Commercial Participants only, this 2˝ day annual conference provides an opportunity to meet, learn from and help other Participants from all over the country.

Basis Trading E-Library

For White Commercial Participants only, the E-Library is a collection of educational materials that teach the skills and disciplines of grain merchandising.  The E-Library includes topics that pertain to all levels of merchandising - from the basic fundamentals to the more advanced skills of basis trading.  The material is presented in a variety of forms and includes written text, audio recordings and multimedia presentations.  The E-Library is continuously updated with new topics and materials as they become available.
